Woodcraft Vector & CAM Studio

From a sketch to a cut panel, without leaving the grain

Magic Carve traces raster artwork into clean, closed vector contours, bridges the floating pieces so your fretwork survives the cut, and writes the G-code your machine already speaks.

No install. Works in the browser.

Built for marquetry, fretwork, relief carving and laser inlay.

Everything between the drawing and the dust

A complete pipeline, tuned for people who cut wood.

  • Honest thresholding

Otsu, adaptive Gaussian or a cutoff you drive by hand. Invert, despeckle, and watch the preview update as you move the slider.

  • Contours that close

Closed polyline extraction with Douglas–Peucker simplification, so a traced curve stays a curve instead of ten thousand points.

  • Bridges that hold

The island detector finds every floating loop in your fretwork and places tabs, so nothing drops out of the panel mid-cut.

  • Toolpaths you can watch

Colour-coded rapid moves and cutting passes, played back on the canvas before a single chip flies.

  • Exports your machine reads

R12-compliant DXF on layered entities, LightBurn-ready SVG, and multi-pass G-code with your bit, RPM, feedrate and safe Z.

  • Six themes, six languages

Including full right-to-left support, because a lot of the world's finest fretwork is drawn in Arabic.

Four steps, one panel

The Studio walks the same path every time.

  1. Upload

Drop in a photo, scan or drawing. PNG, JPEG or WebP.

  2. Trace

Pick a threshold, clean the specks, let the contours settle.

  3. Set up the cut

Choose the machine, the bit, the feeds and the depth per pass.

  4. Export

Take the DXF, SVG or G-code straight to the shop.

From the workshop

  • The tab generator alone saved me a sheet of birch ply a week. Before Magic Carve I was drawing bridges by hand in the CAD file.

  • I scan my grandfather's pattern books and cut them on a 1300×2500 router. The DXF layers come in clean, every time.

  • The G-code preview caught a plunge I'd have found the hard way. That's a £90 bit it paid for on day one.
